Is Waiākea Water really from Hawaii?

Yes! Waiākea Hawaiian Volcanic Water originates on the Mauna Loa volcano and is sourced from a family owned deep well on the Big Island – just outside of Hilo. 

What is Hawaiian volcanic water?

Hawaiian volcanic water refers to Waiākea’s unique volcanic filtration; the water originates atop the Mauna Loa and is filtered through thousands of feet of porous lava rock. This process naturally enriches the water with minerals and electrolytes, while also keeping harmful contaminants away.

What is the pH of Waiākea?

Waiākea’s pH ranges between 7.6 and 8.2, still making it one of the most naturally alkaline water brands in the world.

pH (potential hydrogen) is the measurement of the ratio of hydrogen ions (H+) to hydroxide ions (OH-) in a solution that expresses its relative acidity or alkalinity on a scale that ranges from 0-14. The higher the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution, the lower its pH, and vice versa. A pH of 7 is neutral. Anything below 7 is acidic and anything above 7 is alkaline. 

Naturally alkaline water has a chemical makeup that is vastly different from artificially alkaline water. Artificially alkaline water has undergone a process they call ionization or electrolysis to “trick” the water into thinking it has a certain pH, but possesses none of the minerals that are responsible for the health benefits of naturally alkaline water. 

Lab-made alkaline waters
might register a high pH (some touting a pH as high as 10), however most of these waters are devoid of the minerals and electrolytes that actually make alkaline water so good for you.

Is Waiākea water good for you?

Waiākea volcanic water is naturally alkaline with naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes. It originates on the Mauna Loa volcano from rain or snow. Then, it's naturally filtered through thousands of feet of porous lava rock, which enhances it with a blend of minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and silica before finally emerging at the source as delicious Hawaiian volcanic water.

What does “Waiākea” mean and how is it pronounced?

Waiākea, which means “broad waters” in Hawaiian, gets its name from the ancient subdivision (ahupua'a) in Hilo on the Big Island, which gets almost 360 days of rain each year. It is pronounced ‘why-uh-kay-uh’, or phonetically spelled ‘way-ә-ke-ә’.

How much does Waiākea donate to the community?

Waiākea is committed to giving back to our community. We believe that it is important to make a positive impact on the lives of others and contribute to those around us. That's why we created our award-winning Kōkua Initative to support local organizations and charities. In addition to our Kōkua Initative, we have partnered with PumpAid to bring clean water through entrepreneurship to people in Malawi, and support over 90+ local non profits in Hawai'i. We pledge to donate over 2% of sales to these iniinitiatives annually.

What types of minerals does Waiākea contain?

Waiakea contains the RDI (Recommended Daily Intake) of silica, giving it a uniquely smooth and soft mouthfeel, as well as magnesium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and more. These minerals also contribute to the unique pH of Waiakea.

What types of sustainability projects does Waiākea participate in to achieve Carbon Neutral status?

Reducing carbon emissions is one of our top priorities as a company. It’s an essential part of our quest to preserve our communities and the aina. Prior to offsetting carbon emissions, Waiākea applies new technologies to its supply chain in order to reduce total emissions below the industry standard. 

Some initiatives include using 100% rPET packaging, which uses 85% less energy, 90% less water, and reduces carbon emissions by 90%. Additionally, Waiākea’s source has a daily sustainable yield of 393 million gallons per day, which could provide enough water in a month to satisfy the amount of water that is consumed globally in a year. We bottle less than 0.003% of this. Lastly, we reduce waste throughout our supply chain through smart shipping–this yields a 45% reduction in CO2e emissions during transit.

For every ton of CO2e produced in transportation, an equivalent amount of CO2e is saved by a verified emission reduction project.

The Waiākea Water Kōkua Initiative is committed to empowering the people of Hawai'i through a 3 piko approach that encourages educational opportunities, 'āina-based conservation & sustainability, and support for the most vulnerable in our community.

Each purchase directly funds our Kōkua Initiative, allowing us to donate food and water, basic hygiene supplies, volunteer hours, books and much more.

How does your Pump Aid program work?

For every liter of Waiākea you buy, we donate 1 month of clean water to those in need in Malawi, Africa. Our non-profit partner, Pump Aid, has a mission to address water poverty, food insecurity, and aid dependency. Together with them, we are working to achieve lasting, positive change in poor and disadvantaged communities by improving the quality, availability, and use of water and sanitation. Yes! You can edit your subscription and all upcoming orders by visiting your customer account. From there, you can swap the product, update your info, adjust your delivery frequency, increase/decrease the quantity or skip your next shipment when needed.

Shipping and Tracking

Do you ship internationally?

No, we do not ship internationally. We currently only ship within the United States (excluding Alaska, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and Guam).

How long does it take to deliver?

It typically takes 24-48 hours for orders to ship, excluding weekends and holidays. Once it ships, a shipping confirmation email with the tracking information will be sent and it will take an average of 4-5 business days to arrive.

How much is the shipping fee?

The shipping fee will vary depending on your location and order quantity. An exact amount will be calculated upon checkout.

Can I have my order expedited?

We do not offer expedited shipping at this time. We ship via FedEx or UPS, and it can take an average of 4-5 business days for your package to arrive after it is shipped.

If you are purchasing cases for a special event, please plan accordingly within our shipping parameters.

Can I cancel my order?

Can I get a refund if my order is damaged or missing?

This rarely happens but if it does, please contact us at or at 1-855-WAIAKEA or 1-855-924-2532 so we can arrange a replacement, wherever appropriate. For orders deemed missing, please allow 7-10 business days from the order date before contacting us to ensure that our carrier has had enough time to fulfill your order.
