Waiākea is one of a few naturally alkaline waters filtered through a volcano. So what makes volcanic alkaline water so special and where does it come from?
Source
Our water originates from snowmelt and rain the top of the Mauna Loa Volcano on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Known for being the largest volcano in the world, the shield formation allows the water to slope down the sides towards the ocean where our family-owned deep well is located. We then extract around 0.003% of our well’s daily sustainable yield and then bottle it on site into our OceanPlast® bottles.
Fun fact: Hilo, Hawai’i has an average rainfall of 10 feet per year. This makes it the rainest city in the United States.
Filtration
As the water makes its journey as untouched snowmelt and fresh rainfall down the volcano and is filtered through thousands of feet of porous lava rock. This purifies and naturally enriches the water with trace minerals that gives it its signature, natural alkalinity as well as the unique taste profile.
Minerals and Electrolytes
This filtration process offers many health benefits including the naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes such as Magnesium, Sodium, Silica, Potassium, and Calcium. Each of these minerals offers distinctive advantages which we will outline below.
Naturally Alkaline
Don’t let the high pH numbers fool you, most waters stating they have that essential pH balance are unfortunately just tap water with added chemicals. With all of these naturally occurring minerals being absorbed into Waiākea Water it increases the pH to an alkalinity range of 7.6-8.2. Without the use of chemicals, electrolysis or ionization our water has an alkaline range, rather than a high whole number. Find out more about the difference between lab vs natural water.
Vintage
Since the water is constantly flowing down the volcano into our well the vintage is extremely young, we estimate around 30 days. This makes for that light and crisp taste that leaves you wanting more. Our water is extremely palatable and you will find it easy to drink. This is one of the many reasons why athletes reach for us after a workout.
Conclusion
Hawaiian Volcanic, Volcano Water, Volcanic Water, water from a volcano... all means one thing, water filtered through lava rock on a volcano. This filtration process is the closest you can get to raw water and stay safe from contaminants. Join us in the movement towards naturally alkaline water for a more healthy life.
