Back to Basics for Earth Day

Mālama i ka 'āina means "to respect and care for the land." As Hawaiians, we are responsible for protecting and conserving the environment and its resources through sustainable practices. Waiākea takes this responsibility seriously, not just for Earth Day, but every day.

To start, let's get back to basics. Remember the three R's you learned in school? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. By breaking it down into 3 easy steps and supporting Waiākea, you're already making more eco-friendly moves for the planet.

As one of the first Hawaiian premium water brands to become certified CarbonNeutral, it's important we don't just offset our carbon footprint. We also work tirelessly to reduce emissions through our processes, from source to sip.

We are committed to transforming the beverage and greater CPG industry by way of a technology-forward approach that sets the highest standard possible when it comes to carbon emission reductions. We realize that these industries are only growing larger, and in order to create positive, real, and systemic change, it has to come from the inside-out.

Since its inception, Waiākea has worked diligently with Natural Capital Partners and RSK, two of the world’s leading emissions consultants, to first measure and then reduce both the direct and indirect environmental impact of both its business, and its product, to net zero.

Reusing materials as much as possible is important in the reduction of waste we produce to keep our landfills clean. Our new Hana Hou aluminum bottles are actually refillable! You can reuse each bottle 100+ times, and with each refill, you save the equivalent carbon emissions of two miles of driving.

Want to refill it with more Waiākea? Our 15L Pahu Nunui box is the perfect pairing! Additionally, you can upcycle each 15L bag with us–10 bags makes almost half a gallon of fuel to use for wax for candles and energy to power machinery.

Recycling is so important when it comes to keeping the lifecycle of products infinite. We use 100% rPET bottles, made out of recycled materials, which come with environmental benefits. In comparison to virgin materials, rPET:

  • Produces 79% less CO2 emissions

  • Uses 85% less energy

  • Uses 90% less water

So, when you recycle your PET products, they may be given a new life in Waiākea bottles. They're infinitely recyclable!

Celebrate Earth Day every day! Just by supporting Waiākea, you're already making more eco-friendly moves for our planet.
