Waiākea Hawaiian Volcanic Beverages is stoked to work with ambassador and pro surfer Ēwe Wong on a special campaign to promote ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i!
An O‘ahu Native who stars on the hit show Surf Girls Hawai‘i, Ēwe has made a name for herself catching waves as a professional surfer and on the shore as a model and influencer. Passionate about supporting her culture, Ēwe wanted to host her first ever Hoʻokūkū Heʻe nalu ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Surf Contest).
"From Pūnana Leo to Ke Kula ʻo Samuel Mānaiakalani Kamakau. I had a full immersion education. I learned to ʻōlelo and surf at the same time." Ēwe shares. "My goal has always been to connect the two and encourage the use of Hawaiian language in the ocean."
To enter, contestants must share a 1-3 minute video that includes:
- An Intro in ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i highlighting her/his name, age, and hometown school/alma mater
- Answer any two of the following questions: Why do you love surfing/ocean?; How did you start surfing?; Where's your favorite place to surf and why?; Who is someone you look up to?
- And last but not least, SURF CLIPS!!!
There is no age limit to enter across 3 divisions (short board, body board, and long board). To count, entries must be posted to instagram and tag:
- @eweleiula
- @waiakea
- @kanaeokana.
Winners of each division will received a $500 prize along with Waiākea products and Kanaeokana swag.
The contest is underway and entries will be accepted through April 3, 2025.
